For additional information you need to know when submitting your degree program form,
see PhD Degree Program Form.

Electrical Engineering Major Coursework Credits
     • EE 5XXX and EE 8XXX count for major field credit.
     • Cross-listed courses should be registered as Electrical Engineering. If enrollment is
closed in Electrical Engineering, you may register in the cross-listed department. The
following cross-listed courses count for major field credit:
-CSci 5204 (EE5364) Advanced Computer Architecture
-CSci 8205 (EE 8367) Parallel Computer Organization
               -ME 5361 (EE5611) Plasma-Aided Manufacturing
               -ME 8282 (EE8215) Nonlinear Systems
-AEM 5321 (EE 5231) Linear Systems and Optimal Control
-AEM 5451 (EE 5251) Optimal Estimation
-AEM 8421 (EE5235) Robust Control System Design
     • EE 4XXX courses do not count for major field credit.
     • Seminars, special investigation/direct study courses do not count toward the
14 credit major field course requirement, but do count toward additional
              major/supporting credits.
     • Non-CSE courses must be approved in advance of taking them in order to be
              counted toward degree requirements.

Minor/Supporting Field Credits
     • Students must take 12 credits outside of Electrical Engineering.
     • If a student chooses to take Non-EE credits in more than a single field, this is
       called a suporting field
     • To designate a minor (which is certified on the transcript—unlike the supporting
fields option, which is not) students must complete 12 or more credits in a single
field. A designated minor must be approved by the director of graduate studies
in the minor field and the major department. The EE graduate programs requires
minor courses to be in the lecture/exam format. Seminars, special investigations
or directed studies courses will not be counted toward minor requirements, even
if approved by the minor department.
     • Non-EE 4000 courses acceptable for Graduate Credit apply toward the 12 credit
       minor/supporting field requirement.
     • CSci 5204, CSci 8205, ME 5281, ME 5361, ME 8282, AEM 8401, AEM 8421
are cross-listed courses with EE and do not count for minor/related field credit.
     • Seminars, special investigation/directed study courses do not count for
minor/supporting field credit, but do count toward additional major/supporting credits.
     • Non-CSE courses must be approved in advance of taking them in order to be
       counted toward degree requirements.
     • Electrical Engineering courses do not count toward the Minor/Related Field
       requirement.

Additional Major/Supporting Credits
     • Can include up to 8 MS thesis credits
     •  Six credits of EE 4XXX Regular/Special Topics or Lab Courses (excluding senior
design/co-op/independent study) count for major field credit.
-ME 5281 (EE 4231) Linear Control Systems Laboratory, count toward the six
                     credit EE 4XXX requirement.
-AEM 5495 (EE 4231) Linear Control Systems: Designed by Input/Output Methods,
count toward the six credit EE 4XXX requirement.
     • Non-EE 4000 Level courses acceptable for Graduate Credit apply toward the
14 credit additional major/supporting credits requirement.
     • Can include up to two credits total from the following:
seminars (not EE 8970-80, or colloquiums from other departments)
