COMMENCEMENT

A. COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES ARE HELD IN LATE SPRING AND LATE FALL

Two Graduate School commencement ceremonies are held each year -- in late spring (for January through June graduates) and in late fall (for July through December graduates). Graduates are encouraged, but not required, to attend. To make sure names of graduates appear in the program distributed at the commencement ceremony, students must submit the commencement attendance form by the deadline specified in the Graduate School section of the Class Schedule.

B. PROGRAM APPROVAL IS NECESSARY TO ATTEND COMMENCEMENT -- WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Attendance at commencement will be permitted only upon approval from the Director of Graduate Studies. When a student applies to attend graduation, a signature from the DGS will be required to certify that the program's criteria have been met.

The Computer Engineering faculty has adopted the following criteria for permission to attend the Graduate School Commencement Ceremony:

GENERAL: All requirements for the degree must have been completed, with the possible exception of the Final Oral Examination and Thesis revisions.

IN PARTICULAR: The Director of Graduate Studies will sign permission to attend graduation only if the following events have occurred:

M Comp E (Coursework Only Option)

(1) your academic performance meets the program’s minimum standard of 3.0, and (2) you have completed all coursework on your degree program form or will complete the courses during the semester of the ceremony.

MS Comp E (Plan B)

The Final Oral Examination has occurred (and the student has passed), or: (1) your academic performance meets the programs minimum standard of 3.0, and (2) you have completed all coursework on your degree program form or will complete the courses during the semester of the ceremony, and (3) the Plan B paper has been approved by the advisor and delivered to the members of the examining committee, and (4) the Final Oral Examination has been scheduled.

MS Comp E (Plan A)

The Final Oral Examination has occurred (and the student has passed), or: (1) your academic performance meets the program’s minimum standard of 3.0, and (2) you have completed all coursework on your degree program form or will complete the courses during the semester of the ceremony, and (3) the Thesis Reviewers Report Form has been approved by the readers on your examining committee, and (4) the Final Oral Examination has been scheduled.

C. TO QUALIFY FOR GRADUATION IN A PARTICULAR MONTH

Degrees are awarded at the end of each month. To qualify for graduation in a particular month, a student must submit the Application for Degree form on or before the first workday of that month and must complete the examination and all other requirements (including necessary forms and fees) by the last workday of that month. Please inform the Assistant to the Director of Graduate Studies and the Electrical Engineering receptionist of your future plans (company, mailing address, etc.).
