BENEFITS FOR GRADUATE ASSISTANTS
A. TUITION BENEFITS
- TUITION BENEFITS FOR GRADUATE ASSISTANTS ARE PRINTED IN THE CLASS SCHEDULE BOOK.
- RESIDENT TUITION RATE
Graduate Assistants who work a minimum of 25% time (10 hours per week) per semester and are properly registered are eligible to receive resident rate tuition during that semester. Resident rate tuition applies to eligible students and their immediate family members (spouse or registered same sex domestic partner, children, parents, or legal guardian or ward living in the household).
- TUITION BENEFITS/BILLING STATEMENT
If your tuition benefits are not reflected on your billing statement, contact Graduate Assistant Employment at (612) 624-7070 and your departmental payroll person immediately. Tuition benefits are contingent upon your department entering your graduate assistant appointment on the PeopleSoft system. A tuition benefit is then automatically/electronically generated to your student account. DO NOT IGNORE THE FIRST BILLING STATEMENT. If you do nothing, you will be assessed late fees after the first deadline when bills become due--whether you are entitled to tuition benefits or not. You are responsible for knowing if your billing statement is correct. If a mistake has occurred, we will be happy to assist you in resolving the problem so your tuition benefits may be applied.
- PRORATED TUITION BENEFITS
Appointments Beginning After or Ending Before the Official Semester Appointment Dates. Appointments that begin after or end before the official semester appointment dates will be prorated. The student shall have the unearned portion of tuition benefits billed to them, at non-resident rates if applicable. If the prorated appointment average falls below the 25% time minimum eligibility requirement, 100% of the tuition benefit will be billed to the student, at non-resident rates if applicable.
- APPOINTMENTS ENDING DUE TO GRADUATION
If an appointment ends early because of graduation, a credit shall be received for the prorated appointment average worked even if this average falls below the 25% time minimum eligibility requirement. The credit shall be at resident tuition rates.
B. GRADUATE ASSISTANT MEDICAL PLAN
To receive this coverage you must complete an enrollment form and submit it to the Graduate Assistant Insurance Office
(GAIO), N323 Boynton Health Service, by the enrollment deadline. For most students, this deadline is the end of
the second full week of classes. Plan members are billed each term for any portion of the premium they owe.
Graduate assistant plan members who pay the student services fee will receive a $21 credit (as of this printing)
to their account after the end of each semester (except summer).
