Basic and applied research in acoustics has been conducted in our department since the 1930s. Early on research primarily involved hearing aids facilitated by the primitive but rapidly growing electronics industry. Today, acoustics research is conducted in a variety of areas, including underwater sound; random signal processing; spectral estimation of noise generated by turbulence; interior and exterior noise control; and basic work on sound propagation in porous media with future application in sound-absorbing materials, marine sediments, seismic exploration, and the like.
I am interested in computer-controlled, automatic measurement of sound intensity, acoustic impedance (admittance), sound absorption, etc., utilizing modern electrical engineering technology.
