Dc machine: Commutator action

The 2 permanent magnets create an airgap flux density that is radially directed out of the north pole and into the south pole. The 2 commutator segments which are connected by means of fixed carbon brushes to a dc supply force the conductor currents to always flow in the same direction irrespective of speed. The resulting forces on the conductors act in the same direction in accordance with Faraday's Bli rule.
